My Mentoring Journey

Information

For my mentor program I decided that I was going to design, build and program a semi-robotic hand using lego minestorn ev3 lego.

Even though this robot can't work independently it still gives me an idea of how to make a fully independent robotic arm. I hope that by building this arm I will inspire other children, especially girl, my age to try robotics and IT based things.

Designing

I was inspired to create this design because of a photo I had seen a few years ago on the internet. When I first saw the picture I was amazed by how simple yet complicated their design looked. When designing the robot, I only drew a rough draft up before I started building because I am the sort of person who builds robot designs on the fly.

Building

The first step I did was build the skeletn on the robot using the pieces I had. Unfortunately I couldn't complete the robot in one go because I didn't have the sufficient pieces. Once I had all the pieces I might and more from school, I finished off the hand and tested it out.

Programming

I started trying to program the hand when I was half way through the process of building. After a few failed attempts I asked my friend for some advice. After her help I was able to quickly get a draft working which I tested using half of the robot. After some fine adjustments I had the programming up and running.
